In a couple days it'll be my third month off social media. It might look like I'm active, but my blog posts are automatically pushed to Facebook and Twitter. Hence, my inability to see any comments. I've been getting great emails and having conversations about leaving social media in real life. If you want to get the blog straight to your inbox & other goodies, sign up below. /end plug.
This email dropped in my inbox a couple days ago and it resonated. Seth Godin has a way of articulating my thoughts with great precision and timeliness.
Being someone who makes things for a living, my views towards my career is a fine balance. It's being content with my current situation, while also being ambitious enough to realize my potential and push myself to grow. I feel like social media revealed my weaknesses in being distracted (while needing to get shit done) and being in comparison.
Being off social media hasn't removed those two very human traits of mine. But, it's given me more space to catch myself when I'm being distracted or comparing myself and pull myself away. And it's much easier to do that without an addicting app sucking my energy.
Over the past few months, I've had many conversations where people say they wish they could use their phone/social media/screen/etc. less. I am 100% in support of that. I experience a world with so much creative potential to make cool, beautiful, life changing stuff.
What if we turned off our devices and got started on it? What could you make?
